OUR CITY
OUR FUTURE

A Proven Public Servant

I’ve had the privilege of serving as an elected official on Murphy City Council Place 6 for the past six years. I am seeking re-election because I’m committed to bringing passion and dedication to every decision I make for Murphy’s future and its residents. I am not a voice for one I am a voice for all!

Community Collaboration

I have outlined key areas that I would like to focus my attention for the next 3 years if re-elected to city council. As an advocate for the community I want to ensure the residents of Murphy have input as the decisions of council impacts every Murphy resident

The city of Murphy is almost completely built out.  We have major decisions to make regarding the last parcels of land in Murphy. Ensuring community input is essential for a successful city buildout! I have listed the many ways I plan to engage the community effectively:

  • Town Hall Meetings: Host regular in-person or virtual town hall meetings where residents can voice their opinions and ask questions.
  • Surveys and Polls: Create surveys and polls to gather input on specific aspects of the buildout. Online platforms can help reach a broader audience.
  • Workshops and Focus Groups: Organize workshops and focus groups with community members to brainstorm and discuss detailed plans and ideas.
  • Social Media Engagement: Use social media channels to share updates and gather feedback. Create posts, polls, and live Q&A sessions to engage with the community.
  • Community Advisory Committees: Form committees with representatives from different neighborhoods and interest groups to provide diverse perspectives.
  • Public Forums: Set up public forums on your city’s website where residents can submit ideas and comments on the buildout plans.
  • Interactive Maps and Visuals: Use interactive maps and visuals to help residents understand the proposed changes and provide their input.
  •

I believe that fostering open communication and collaboration, will lead to the creation of a vision that reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.

Economic Development

Economic development remains a top priority and I look forward to continuing to attract businesses to Murphy.  I have been an avid supporters of local businesses and have enjoyed working closely with business owners not only on city council but also as the Director at Large for the Murphy Chamber of Commerce. Economic development leads to:

  • Job Creation: A strong economy attracts businesses, which in turn create jobs for residents.
  • Revenue Generation: Economic growth leads to increased tax revenues for the city. This additional revenue can be invested in public services such as infrastructure, public safety, green spaces, and community programs.
  • Infrastructure Development: Economic development provides the financial resources needed to build and maintain essential infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and utilities. Quality infrastructure is vital for the smooth functioning of the city and attracting businesses and residents.
  • Community Well-being: A thriving economy contributes to the social and economic well-being of the community. It can lead to a more vibrant and engaged community.
  • Attracting Investments: Economic development initiatives make the city more attractive to investors. This can lead to the establishment of new businesses, the growth of existing businesses, and overall economic diversification.
  • Sustainable Growth: Strategic economic development ensures sustainable growth by balancing development with environmental and social considerations. This includes promoting green technologies, sustainable practices, and inclusive growth that benefits all segments of society.
  • Enhanced Quality of Life: A city with a strong economy can offer better amenities, cultural activities, recreational facilities, and other quality-of-life improvements that make it an attractive place to live, work, and visit.

Reduction of Property Taxes

Reducing property taxes and utility costs is a significant concern for many residents. Here are some approaches that I believe can help alleviate these issues.

Reducing Property Taxes:

  • Economic Growth and Diversification:  The development of new businesses broadens the tax base. A larger tax base can help distribute the tax burden more evenly and potentially lowers property tax rates.
  • Efficient Budget Management: Every year the city budgest is reviewed. I propose that we continue to do a thorough review of the city’s budget to identify areas where costs can be reduced or eliminated without compromising essential services. This can include cutting unnecessary expenditures and improving operational efficiencies.
  • Tax Incentives and Relief Programs: As a member of council I will discuss with council member sand the city manager that we look into offering support programs that provide tax relief to specific groups, such as senior citizens, veterans, and the disabled. This can help mitigate the impact of property taxes on vulnerable populations.

Reducing Utility Costs:

  • Energy Efficiency Initiatives: Promote energy efficiency programs that help residents and businesses reduce their energy consumption. This can include incentives for energy-efficient appliances, home weatherization programs, and public education campaigns on energy conservation.
  • Renewable Energy: Encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources and lower utility costs in the long run. This can include supporting community solar projects and providing incentives for residential solar installations.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Advocate for the modernization and maintenance of utility infrastructure to reduce losses and improve efficiency. This can include upgrading water and sewer systems, investing in smart grid technology, and replacing aging infrastructure.
